Today, We Are Looking For
A Senior Research Analyst. The Research Division at the Greater Houston Partnership is responsible for providing up-to-date business research and economic analysis to support the Partnership’s mission of making Houston the best place to live, work, and do business. Research supports internal teams, members, and the local community with the latest economic updates and in-depth reports on economic fundamentals such as job growth and global trade, and supports core and strategic initiatives such as economic development, public policy, and workforce development.
The Sr. Research Analyst advances the Partnership’s mission by sourcing, managing, and analyzing economic, demographic, and social data; writing and contributing to various research products such as research reports and presentations; supporting internal partners by fulfilling research requests; and serving as a project leader as needed.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The following responsibilities are essential to job performance:
Source, Manage, and Analyze Data
- Devise and evaluate innovative methods and procedures for data collection, management, and analysis
- Access economic, demographic, and social data from public and proprietary sources
- Organize and analyze data to conduct regular reporting and answer key research questions
- Manage data files and databases for collaborative use with Research Team members
- Use data management, analysis, and visualization tools to analyze data and derive insights
- Collect and analyze survey data from members, board members, and other key stakeholders
- Work with research team members to develop and utilize AI-assisted research tools and workflows to improve research accuracy and efficiency
Develop and Write Research Products
- Contribute to and publish regular reports, such as Key Economic Indicators and Houston at a Glance, to provide up to date data and analysis for the public
- Contribute to annual reports such as Global Houston, Houston Facts, and Houston Regional Economic Outlook
- Develop research products translating complex research and analysis into actionable insights for internal and external stakeholders, including:
- Background Papers/Literature Reviews
- C2ER Cost of Living Index
- Company and Trade Profiles
- Key Economic Indicators
- Fiscal and Economic Impact Studies
- Membership Report
- Use data analysis and visualization tools to create charts, tables, and graphs for publications and research products
Support Internal Teams and Projects
- Closely collaborate with and support other teams in the organization on research and data analysis, visualization, and interpretation, to fulfill team and organizational strategic goals
- Participate as needed in internal meetings with other departments, such as Economic Development, Membership, Marketing/Communications, and Public Policy
Serve as Project Leader and Expert
- Lead within-research or cross-functional project teams as needed
- Serve as subject matter expert in areas relevant to the Partnership’s policy agenda, such as education and workforce, health care, economics, or similar field
- Represent the organization at community and business meetings
- Give research presentations to internal and external audiences as needed

Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:
- Proficiency in Excel, particularly data analytic skills.
- Experience in analytical research, market analysis, and report writing.
- Familiarity with local business, community, or policy issues (workforce trends, environmental quality, real estate development, regional demographic trends, education and workforce, healthcare, etc.).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly the ability to summarize technically complex information for a non-technical audience
- Data savvy personality with proven attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organization and prioritization skills
- Highly motivated self-starter with strong, positive, “can do” attitude and motivation to explore new technologies, including AI.
- Proven team player and collaborator with an innovative spirit and ability to multitask
- Demonstrated ability and maturity to manage projects and work with people at all levels, both internally and externally
- Flexibility to work some overtime, as necessary.
The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are preferred:
- Proficiency in additional data analysis or statistical platforms, such as Python, R, SAS, or Stata.
- Proficiency with data visualization and analysis platforms such as Tableau, R or R Shiny, ArcGIS, Power BI, Datawrapper, or similar.
- Experience in database management.
- Familiar with Salesforce or similar CRMs preferred
Education Requirements
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in business or marketing, social science with a research focus (economics, sociology, psychology, policy studies), education research or policy, public health or health policy required. Post-graduate degree is preferred.
Required Experience
- 5+ year’s professional experience, with increasing responsibilities, in social science, science, or business research, data analysis, marketing, policy research, or similar environment required. Experience leading teams or projects preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Good vision and hearing acuity (with adaptive aids if necessary).
- Manual dexterity and skillful use of computer keyboard.
- Physical exertion includes bending, pushing, standing, and walking. Must be able to move or lift approximately 25 pounds on occasion.
Mental and Aptitude Requirements
- Job requires the ability to hear, see, and talk; analytical, conceptual, problem-solving, planning, and decision-making skills.
