Description

The University of Rochester School of Nursing (SON) seeks a distinguished Associate or Full Professor with expertise in oncology nursing research to become the inaugural Jean E. Johnson Endowed Chair in Oncology Nursing. This remarkable opportunity is made possible by a generous gift from Dr. Johnson, an eminent and groundbreaking nurse researcher. Johnson was a pioneer in oncology nursing research, whose theory of self-regulation focused on stress and coping with physical illness for cancer patients.

The key requirement for this position is an outstanding record of research excellence and national prominence, ideally with a proven track record of securing NIH funding and a productive and sustained research focus in oncology. By joining our dynamic team of scientists and clinicians at the School of Nursing and Wilmot Cancer Institute, the appointed professor will contribute to our collective mission of pursuing excellence in clinical and scientific learning, discovery, and nursing care within an environment of diversity and inclusion.

In addition to maintaining their own research program, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in cultivating and expanding our cancer nurse research group. They will have the opportunity to mentor students, fellows, and early career scientists, fostering their growth and development.

UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER SCHOOL OF NURSING
The SON is part of the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), a world-class academic health center where advancing research and scientific discovery is a core mission. URMC is home to more than 3,000 researchers who receive substantial research support and implementation assistance, especially in relocating an established program of research to the University of Rochester.

THE WILMOT CANCER INSTITUTE
The Wilmot Cancer Institute is an 87-bed flagship cancer center with 13 outpatient locations providing care to approximately three million people in a 27-county region in western and central New York.

UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER MEDICAL CENTER
One of the nation’s leading academic medical centers, URMC forms the centerpiece of the university’s biomedical research, teaching, patient care, and community outreach missions.
URMC’s health care delivery network is anchored by Strong Memorial Hospital, a university-owned teaching hospital boasting programs consistently recognized nationally.

ROCHESTER
Rochester consistently receives high rankings nationally as a “most livable city,” for overall quality of life, and as one of the very best places to raise a family. The third largest metro in New York State is easy to get to and even easier to get around. Rochester is the gateway to the Finger Lakes, located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, and is within a day’s drive of one-third of the U.S. population.

COMPENSATION
The successful candidate will receive an attractive and competitive compensation package, together with excellent benefits.

The University of Rochester is responsive to the needs of dual career couples.
