ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR - DIVISION CHAIR
The James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, University of Cincinnati, invites applications for a full-time, 12- month, tenure-track chair position for the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administrative Sciences. The Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administrative Sciences is one of two divisions in the College of Pharmacy and consists of 20 full-time faculty members with diverse practice settings and scholarly interests. The University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center consists of the Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Allied Health. In addition, it is affiliated with the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the #1 Children’s hospital in the US, and the Veterans Administration Hospital.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience as a clinician and pharmacy educator and is expected to develop/maintain a competitive, externally funded research program and should qualify for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, tenure-eligible. Preference given to an applicant with clinical or health outcomes research and a history of administrative leadership responsibilities.
The chair will lead and foster the advancement of the Pharm.D. program, postgraduate education and training programs, and be responsible for recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention of faculty. The chair will promote a productive environment for the enhancement of faculty members’ collaborative practice and research initiatives. Additional responsibilities include supporting the deans and experiential program director in developing and strengthening relationships with outside practice partners, preceptors, the pharmaceutical industry, professional organizations and alumni.
Job Responsibilities: Chair, Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administrative Sciences
Provides leadership within the division with respect to scholarly activity and funding
Provides leadership within the division with respect to teaching
Provides leadership within the division with respect to service
Provides leadership within the division with respect to practice and practice advancement initiatives
Contributes to the academic and scholarly activity goals of the College
Participates in the school’s professional curriculum, committee work, professional organizations, and attendance at seminars, conferences, and professional meetings
Meets the expectations of faculty members commensurate with requirements for promotion and tenure
Oversees the division’s operational functions including budgetary requirements, as well as the entrepreneurial opportunities for the College
Conducts annual performance and teaching reviews of division faculty and staff in order to provide a fair and balanced assessment of the quality and of their activities
Establishes equitable workloads for all division faculty members to maximize efforts in teaching, scholarship, practice (if applicable) and service
Assigns faculty mentors and assists in the professional development of faculty to facilitate faculty development towards promotion and tenure
Regularly perform visits at practice sites and facilitate the development and sustainment of practice sites for faculty
Effectively engages division faculty in development and assessment of the Strategic Plan of the College
Involves faculty in the decision-making process of the division and College
Negotiates effectively with the Dean to secure adequate internal and external resources to carry out the missions of the Division
Broadly represents the Division to the College and University administration, current and potential experiential and community partners, and at professional meetings
Effectively engages division faculty in the recruitment of high-quality faculty to the College
Promotes a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion and collegiality within the division and the College
Utilizes effective leadership techniques
Communicates effectively
Respects confidentiality
Applicants must have an earned Pharm.D. and/or Ph.D. degree (or equivalent); prior residency or fellowship training and Board certification are desirable.
