- Urgent Care Associate In South Texas
Description
Urgent Care Veterinarian - For people who practise medicine, not protocols
veturgentcarehtx.com - Houston, Texas
This is not a normal urgent care job.
But if you're looking for something that goes beyond normal urgent care, then read on.
The work
We exist for the animals and families who are falling through the gaps in modern veterinary medicine.
Not because they don’t care.
Not because they won’t try.
But because they can’t access a system that increasingly defaults to fear, maximal diagnostics, and unsustainable cost.
We practise fast, pragmatic, spectrum-of-care urgent medicine - and we do it well.
That means:
- decisive triage
- efficient surgery
- judgment over protocol
- options over ultimatums
- responsibility over deflection
Many of our patients arrive because they were told their only options were thousands of dollars a day or euthanasia. Often, that simply isn’t true.
We are here to prove there is another way.
This is a crew, not a clinic
What makes this place work is not a building, a brand, or a schedule.
It’s how the team thinks and moves together.
We work fast.
We trust each other.
We don’t hide behind gold-standard language when good medicine can be delivered another way.
We own our decisions.
If you thrive in environments where judgment, pace, and shared responsibility matter more than polish, you’ll feel at home here.
If you need rigid protocols, slow case flow, or heavy layers of oversight to feel safe - you won’t.
The medicine
You will see:
- wounds, trauma, blocked cats, parvo, acute GI, pain cases
- a high surgical caseload that rewards efficiency and clarity
- real urgent care, not diluted ER-lite
You will be expected to:
- make clear decisions under pressure
- operate confidently and efficiently
- document accurately and invoice cleanly
- delegate to technicians who are highly capable and trusted to lead
This is not defensive medicine.
This is responsible medicine under real-world constraints.
You might belong in this crew if…
You believe accessible care and high-quality care are not opposites
You are surgically confident and work efficiently
You stay organised when things get busy
You don’t equate good medicine with maximum spend
You are comfortable owning decisions — and outcomes
You understand that systems only work when people bring discipline, awareness, and follow-through.
This is not the right role if…
You believe every case must default to gold standard regardless of context
You practise slowly and defensively
You struggle with pace or prioritisation
You need constant structure imposed from above
You’re uncomfortable working in a value-driven, countercultural environment
We don’t practise defensive or performative medicine. We want you to be able to say no when it’s the right clinical decision.

Our manifesto

The East End Veterinary Manifesto
(Veterinary Medicine As It Should Be)
We stand for veterinary medicine the way it was meant to exist — bold, compassionate,
evidence-driven, human, and relentlessly hopeful. When a patient walks through our doors, we
do what is best for them and for the people who love them. We do not default to “nothing can be
done.” We refuse to practice by habit, convenience, or despair.
We challenge the idea that medicine must always be a certain way.
We challenge the teachings that told us to stop trying.
We challenge the reflex to give up.
Yes, euthanasia can be appropriate — but not automatic. Not unexamined. Not the first idea
because it is the easiest. We ask questions. We think. We try. We use science, evidence, and
experience as tools — not as excuses to abandon possibility. When we don’t know, we
acknowledge it, and then we try anyway with honesty and transparency.
We communicate clearly. We offer options. We find solutions.
If we truly can’t solve it, it will never be because we didn’t try.
We built this ourselves — no corporation, no script, no outsiders dictating how to care. We
rewrote the rules from the ground up. We are the punk-rock of veterinary medicine:
independent, defiant, creative, and committed to doing what actually helps animals and their
people. We put people over profit. We say yes. We do what’s necessary. We stand together.
In a profession full of burnout, isolation, and disillusionment, we choose something different. We
come to work because we believe in this job. We remember why we went to school. We
remember the community we serve. We see what needs fixing — and we fix it. We mentor. We
lift each other up. We do not tolerate toxicity. We build each other into masters of our craft.
We take care of the people who are left out of the system.
We make veterinary care accessible.
We trust clients.
We offer payment plans.
We take risks because compassion demands courage.
This is a place where staff feel proud. Where they feel safe. Where they feel united. Where they
can say, “This isn’t like anywhere else.” Because here, we care — loudly. Fiercely. Consistently.
We work hard. We show up. We get better. And at the end of the day, we know we made a real
difference.
The world is running low on kindness, compassion, and understanding.
We refuse to contribute to that scarcity.
We are building the antidote.
This is veterinary medicine as it should be — humane, honest, scientific, rebellious, and full of
hope.
This is East End.
We are built, not bought.
We do the work others gave up on.
