JOB SUMMARY:
The Physician for Infectious Disease/HIV Care provides direction to the organization with respect to HIV medical care. In addition to serving as the primary clinical consultant in Infectious Disease, this physician keeps staff clinicians abreast of developments in HIV medicine and actively pursues opportunities to further develop and improve the HIV care that CBHS provides. This Physician for HIV Clinical Care collaborates closely with the Lead Physician for HIV Research to provide unified leadership in Infectious Disease. This position represents CBHS to the medical and patient communities, as well as the community at-large, as an expert in HIV Medicine.
Requirements
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teamwork
Provides direction to the organization with respect to Infectious Disease issues
Functions as CBHS’ primary clinical consultant in Infectious Disease
Collaborates with Pharmacy staff in maximizing an HIV formulary and assisting the pharmacy in seeking inclusions of HIV agents in MCO formularies as they become FDA approved
Communication
Keeps CBHS clinical staff aware of updates to Infectious Disease guidelines and new research findings through regular presentations at staff meetings
Ensures that medical staff and other interested/involved departments (nursing, CMOD) are aware of current clinical trials and enrollment criteria
Represents CBHS to the medical and patient Communities, as well as the community at-large, as an expert in HIV medicine
Reads and responds to e-mail in a timely manner
Answers phone calls/pages within 30 minutes
Serves on MST Task Force
Responds promptly to queries from sponsors about specific cases
Participates in internal committees and teams as requested
Medical Care
Applies the Care Model to patient care
Maintains the standard of clinical care, using diagnostic testing appropriately yet
Cost-effective, and providing appropriate treatment
Reviews research patients’ labs within 2 working days of receipt and takes appropriate action if abnormal
Documents social history (ever) in 90% of patients seen at least 3 times as PCP.
Allergies are documented (ever) in 90% of patients seen at least 3 times as PCP.
Health habits and risk factors are documented (ever) in 90% of patients seen at least 3 times as PCP.
Sexual history is updated within the last two years in 50% of cases audited.
Immunizations are up to date in at least 50% of patients reviewed in chart audit
Self-management goal has been documented/updated within one year for patients with chronic disease at least 40% of time in chart audit
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Required: M.D. or D.O. with completion of an accredited residency training program, as well as Board Certification for full-time Infectious Diseases Physician and/or a combination of internal medicine, family practice and experience working with HIV/AIDS and Infectious Diseases.
Desired: AAHIVM certification.
Required: Minimum 3 years experience in treating people living with HIV/AIDS in a ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
Desired: Experience working in a non-profit healthcare environment
Current Maryland License to practice medicine
Federal DEA license
