Description
East Melbourne | Full-time | Clinical Leadership Role
This is not a “most senior vet on the roster” role.
This is a true leadership position for a veterinarian who wants to shape a clinic, lead a team, and still love coming to work.
We're looking for a Head Veterinarian to guide our East Melbourne practice - someone who enjoys mentoring others, setting clinical standards, and building a calm, high-performing team, while still being hands-on with interesting cases.
Evervet has 3 practices located in inner Melbourne and we are proudly family owned and independent. Benefit from a large team, we discuss cases, socialise and help solve each other's problems across the 3 clinics.
Why this role is different
You'll be stepping into a clinic that already has:
- A supportive, values-driven culture
- Strong clinical standards
- Access to advanced surgery, diagnostics, training and internal support
- Owners who genuinely care about team wellbeing, sustainability, professional development and leadership development
- This role is for someone who wants influence and growth, not burnout.
What we offer (the stuff that actually matters)
- Genuine leadership role with autonomy and trust
- Competitive salary + leadership loading (we pay for responsibility)
- Working arrangements that respect life outside work
- Proper breaks and sensible consult lengths
- Strong nursing support and well-run systems
- Ongoing leadership mentoring and development
- A team that is kind, capable, and wants to be led well
Why East Melbourne?
- Inner-city location in a new purpose built clinic
- Engaged, loyal client base
- Complex, interesting medicine without corporate chaos
- A clinic ready for the next chapter of leadership
Requirements
The role
As a Head Vet, you will:
- Set and uphold clinical standards
- Mentor and support vets and nurses (especially early-career)
- Help create a positive, psychologically safe team culture
- Have meaningful input into rostering, workflows, and clinic direction
- Work closely with supportive owners who value your judgement
- This is a hands-on clinical role with leadership influence, not a desk job.
About you
You're probably:
- 5–10+ years out, confident clinically
- Respected by peers with a can-do attitude
- The person others already come to for advice
- Curious about leadership and business - or already doing it informally
- Keen to help shape how a clinic feels, not just how it runs
- You don't need to have “Head Vet” on your CV already - but you do need the desire to lead, learn and be accountable for a team.
Curious?
If you're even thinking about stepping into leadership - or looking for a role that can grow with you over time - we'd love to talk.
No pressure. No recruiters. Just a genuine conversation.
