Description
PURPOSE OF JOB: Provide comprehensive clinical support for cardiac devices and manage device clinic.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for the administration and clinical management of the Paceart/ Optima Data Base including connectivity of device related databases to electronic health records; provide office support for the device clinic.
- Provide clinical management and support for patients monitored with remote device checks.
- Provide education to patients/family about devices which include care and follow up.
- Collaborate with other coordinators and staff to design, incorporate and improve device clinic processes.
- Assist with seeing office visits and charge for them when appropriate.
Oversight for Penn Medicine Doylestown Health Cardiology
- Management of in-clinic and remote device patient workflow design to maximize efficiency and to implement changes as needed to meet patient care delivery goals.
- Coordination with technician (or designated office resource) on process for external monitoring (including holters and MCOT) ensuring all steps are fulfilled (ordering, completion, interpreting, reporting, billing) and changes to process are implemented when needed. Oversight for evaluation of any new external monitoring products from demonstration and training stage through implementation and long-term workflow.
- Oversight of and clinical liaison for all Connectivity needs for current systems for Device Clinic Integration. This includes:
- Paceart Optima Database and active coordination with IT on troubleshooting, updates, and necessary training activities.
- HL7 Integration updates and activities associated with ECW EHR products (working with ECW and IT) including clinical updates to the system and HL7 integration troubleshooting or updates as needed that affect device clinic data storage or transfer.
- Clinical liaison to Remote Monitoring vendors to ensure site function and remote integration to Optima system.
- Clinical Representative for department and/or other designated workgroups or committees involving Arrhythmia Services.
- Clinical liaison to Administrative Physicians for device-related discussion.
JOB CRITERIA AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
1. Coordinator will be able to perform:
-
- In office device interrogations for Pacemakers, ICD, BIV devices, loop recorders.
- Able to identify device problems and troubleshoot as needed.
- Identify critical values or new findings and present them to the Physician.
- Provide guidance for scheduling of device patients for the Front desk.
- Document device checks via EMR.
- Reprogram device as directed by Physicians.
- Perform Trans-telephonic pacemaker checks.
2. Coordinator will be able to:

- Collaborate with device companies to set up remote monitoring.
- Access remote monitoring, evaluate and document results.
- Identify abnormalities that need Physician review.
- Review alerts from remote monitoring and address issues.
3. Coordinator will:

- Educate patients about their device. This includes site care, scheduling of appt., basic device function and what to do if ICD shocks.
- Triage phone calls related to device therapy.
4. Coordinator will:
-
- Lead and collaborate with appropriate staff on process improvement for device clinic.
- Identify issues and problem solve for issues that occur in device clinic including: scheduling issues, documentation issues, EMR process improvement.
5. Coordinator will:
-
- Assist with patient office visits as assigned.
- Perform vital signs and EKG’s.
- Lead clinical support monthly meetings.
- Maintain CME’s as mandated by licensure.
- Attend device educational programs as needed.
6. All other duties as required
Requirements
Education: RN/NP/PA license in Pennsylvania required
Experience: Minimum 1-2 yrs. device interrogation experience REQUIRED for pacemakers, ICD's, BIV devices, and loop recorders.
Other Skills: ACLS certified required
